LeasingStack now works for auto brokers across Canada, from BC to Newfoundland and Labrador, including the territories. Wherever your customers live, the desk sets their sales tax from their postal code and quotes the lease in kilometres.
Here is what that looks like region by region, and how to get your brokerage set up. For the full list of what Canadian brokerages get, see our Canada launch post.
What the desk does in each region
Each province has its own sales tax setup. The desk picks the right one from the customer's postal code, and you can always edit it on the deal.
Ontario
Ontario deals are taxed at 13% HST. On a lease, HST is added to each payment and to any cash down, and trade-in equity applied to the lease is not taxed.
British Columbia
BC deals carry 5% GST plus PST. PST on passenger vehicles starts at 7% and rises with the price, up to 20% at $150,000 and above. Zero-emission vehicles have higher thresholds. Unlike other provinces, BC PST is still charged on trade-in value applied to a lease, and it is charged on the price after manufacturer rebates. The desk handles all of this for you.
Alberta and the territories
Alberta, Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut charge only the 5% GST. Leases in these regions carry the lowest tax in the country.
Quebec
Quebec deals carry 5% GST plus 9.975% QST, for 14.975% combined. Trade-in equity on a lease is not taxed, and manufacturer rebates do not reduce either tax.
Manitoba and Saskatchewan
Manitoba charges 5% GST plus 7% RST, and Saskatchewan charges 5% GST plus 6% PST. In both, trade-in equity on a lease is not taxed.
Atlantic Canada
Nova Scotia charges 14% HST. New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island charge 15% HST. The same lease rules apply as in Ontario.
In every province, new vehicles over $100,000 also get the federal luxury tax as its own line, dealer fees are taxable by default, and registration is never taxed. For a deeper walkthrough with examples, read how Canadian auto brokers can desk deals with province-based taxes.
Getting your brokerage live
Setting up a Canadian brokerage takes the same few steps as a US one.
Sign up and choose Canada as your business country.
Add your logo, business address, and postal code so quotes and PDFs carry your brand.
Share your credit application and lead links. The SIN is optional for your customers.
Desk your first deal. Enter the customer's postal code and the tax is set for you.
What stays the same
Canadian brokerages use the same platform as everyone else: the auto broker CRM, Lead Center, broker website, team roles, and fee and commission tracking. If you already have an account set to the US and you operate in Canada, contact us and we will switch it for you.
Try it with your own deals
The best way to see how LeasingStack handles your province is to desk a real deal. Every plan includes desking and five users, runs month to month, and starts with a 14-day free trial. Pro adds live lender program data for Canada.
